Kacific is a next-generation broadband satellite operator. Working through local partners, its satellites deliver fast internet bandwidth empowering public services, businesses and consumers in urban areas, rural villages and remote communities in territories with highly dispersed pockets of population. Its first satellite, Kacific1 brings affordable broadband in the archipelago countries of the Pacific and South East Asia. With direct-to-the-building speeds of up to 100Mbps, this satellite will substantially improve the access to affordable broadband for all islanders, local businesses and collective connectivity systems.
Kacific is addressing the endemic lack of high-speed and affordable broadband supply in the Pacific and South East Asia. Satellite service providers, telecom infrastructure providers, tourism industry leaders, local governments, regional aid programs and local companies all have much to gain from the digital ecosystem brought by Kacific’s enabled broadband connectivity.
Kacific is member of the Pacific Telecommunications Council (PTC) and an affiliate member of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT).
Over the last few years, a new type of satellite, the High Throughput Satellite (HTS), has come into operation in many parts of the world. These spacecraft are designed to provide broadband access using concentrated beams leveraging Ka-band frequency and adaptive modulation. Those next-generation satellite networks have demonstrated success in the US, Australia, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Based on this validated Ka-band HTS technology, Kacific offers fast, affordable and accessible broadband Internet everywhere in the Pacific and South East Asia. End-user terminals can be set up in less than an hour with no installation cost, giving easy and immediate access to Kacific low-cost bandwidth. This game-changer solution is suitable for residential, commercial and public service use.
Access in Asia Pacific
From space, the islands of the blue continent appear as a set of isolated points, dots separated by vast distances from the massy land forms at the ocean’s perimeter. Kacific’s mission is to connect the dots – to the rest of the world and to one another.
A group of global investors and seasoned satellite professionals are leading the project’s development. Our vision is to drive economic growth throughout the Pacific and South East Asia with low cost, high throughput satellite broadband. Our goal is to enable the residents of the region to fully embrace the digital economy and truly participate to the connected world. The idea is to replicate the technical systems and business model of existing high speed satellite services, but on an underserved part of the world.
Kacific1, the company’s first satellite, is a purpose-built system that will operate a Ka-band HTS payload pinpointed at the islands of the Pacific, South Asian archipelagos and part of South Asia. The team has designed the specifications of the system with a view to replicate it and to contract, launch and operate a series of satellite payloads for a period of at least 15 years each. A Kacific satellite is a scaled-down, intelligently targeted version of large HTS and the first one will serve more than 22 countries or separate archipelagos. Kacific’s first satellite, Kacific1, is co-owned with a partner in a condominium arrangement. This orbiting satellite will generate a large number of narrow circular or shaped beams, each delivering up to 1.25 Gbps of Internet capacity to be resold by Kacific’s partners to enterprise, government and residential users.
Kacific uses technology and equipment designs proven over years – sometimes decades – of accumulated business operations. There is none of the risk associated with new technologies. Today, some launch vehicles achieve success rates higher than 99% and similar rates of success are recorded by satellites over their lifetime.
